Text Box: Ambicare was established in 1993 and has been directly involved in the evolution of non-emergency patient transport. Ambicare is the only privately owned operator who designs and has fabricated their own vehicles to meet all their patients needs. Ambicare transfers inter-hospital, TAC and Workcover patients throughout Victoria and Interstate for admission procedures and to specialist appointments. Ambicare is the proud                                           organization of winning the Powercor Wimmera Business of the Year . in 2006 and in 2008 won the Powercor Wimmera Business Awards                                                       Medium Business 31 plus Employees Award Ambicare has identified and solved many of the problems associated                                                     with long distance patient transfers in rural areas. Being not                                                                     constrained by the demands of accident and emergency response,                                                       Ambicare is free to focus on patient comfort and safety, hospital                                               compatibility and family considerations. It is the original and still the most progressive patient transfer service i.e. it remains the only service of its type to use body form moulding mattresses on all its stretchers to alleviate discomfort for patients on rough country roads. In addition Ambicare vehicles feature a built in refrigerator for the convenience of patients, especially over long distances. Ambicare vehicles are fitted with a hydraulic step for easy patient access. Patients transferred by Ambicare are in the care of a qualified Ambulance Transport Attendant, Ambulance Officer or a Registered Nurse Division 1 employed by Ambicare. Ambicare meets all the requirements required by the Non-Emergency Patient Transport Act 2005 and is licensed by DHS to transport non emergency patients throughout Victoria License No. 2008/06. Ambicare has recently received 4 years accreditation through the ACHS EQuIP 4 quality improvement program. The feedback given to Ambicare from the three surveyors who visited over three days, was very positive. Benefits for patients & their families For some country people, especially the elderly, the stress on the patient for their partner’s welfare is sometimes more paramount than the illness itself. On these occasions Ambicare has a family policy ensuring Ambicare will offer to transport a family member to accompany the patient if desired.
